Bonfire Night 2009

There was a good crowd, including many children waving glow lights, to see the bonfire and fireworks from the green in front of the bus hut at North Corner. It was one of the few dryish interludes in a very wet week, which has seen rain every day. The moon rose over Lowland Point to watch the spectacle, which was provided by Coverack Space 2000, the community group which organises many events in the village.

The usual bonfire on the beach needed a platform to be built, to raise the fire above the high tide, and this was done with many willing helpers. A large fire was then built on the platform on the afternoon of the 5th November to prevent spoilers from lighting it before the due day.

As usual there were many helpers, coordinated by Caroline Beadle, some of whom you can see at work in the photos below.
Caroline says, "Thank you to every one for your hard work and effort put in to this evening.
It was a lovely community event. Thank you. Please thank all of those that you know who helped as well!
I have had a quick count up of money and we have raised almost £400 tonight - not including the BBQ and the drinks.
We have had a massive £560 odd pounds donated by local business - Over £300 of this was raised by The Waves Fish night!
A great success and it looks like we might have to do it all again next year!"

Having the fireworks set off by Trevor Roberts and his team at the harbour means that there is a safe distance between the fireworks and those watching. The bus hut green is a good place to see it all happening and luckily this year the wind was off shore taking the sparks from the bonfire harmlessly out to sea.

Thanks are due to St Keverne fire brigade, who were in attendance as an extra safety precaution.

Christmas Lights

A successful curry night was put on by the Paris Hotel on the following day, Friday 6th, to raise funds for the Coverack Christmas lights. A team of helpers then erected the poles for the strings of lights the next morning, so we know Christmas must be on the way.
