Once again Coverack’s annual regatta was very well supported by both visitors and locals many of whom entered the large programme of events. Surprisingly there was only one shower of rain during the afternoon which didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits but cheered up Tom Salmon the resident commentator and DJ who had been itching to play “Raindrops Keep Falling On Your Head” over the new PA system.

A feature of this year’s event was the large number of younger children who threw themselves, sometimes literally, into the competitions providing lots of amusement and spectacle.

The tide was perfect this year allowing the pillow fight and comical diving to take place and both these events were very well supported. Special congratulations to Krysty and Tiaan Clark who entered every available event and won prizes in most. Also praise for eight year old Bebe Malik who took part in everything and was the first on the greasy pole for the pillow fight. Later, with the help of Hollie, she plucked up the courage to perform a comical dive from the highest point of the harbour which received great support from the spectators.

Out in the bay the boat racing was well supported and, amidst the thunder of the engines, it was refreshing for the spectators to witness the first sailing boat race for some years.

Tony Carey was judged to have provided the overall best performance and was awarded the Frank Daw Memorial Cup.

The Regatta Committee wishes to thank the participants, spectators, local businesses who support with raffle prizes and the many vice presidents who contribute annually to funds. Thanks also to the officials especially the handicappers, starters, judges and the Coastguard who ensure the success of this important annual event.
