Four Coverack Cyclists

Challenge accepted - Success achieved!

The four ladies from Coverack took on the Big Cycle Challenge in India in support of four cancer charities. The event was organised by Action for Charity and took place in Rajasthan from 15th to 25th November.
The group needed to train for the event and could be seen cycling round the Lizard Peninsula and further afield preparing for the 370 kilometre challenge.

There was a chance to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra before setting off on the first day’s ride of seventy three kilometres to a campsite in Bashawar. Four more days, averaging over seventy kms a day on dusty roads, brought the cyclists to the finish in the “Pink City” of Jaipur. The Indian people were very welcoming and children lined the roadside in the villages, to witness the unusual sight of women riding bicycles. Paper, pens and books were taken and given to a village school in a country where there is much poverty. From Jaipur there was a bus to Delhi, with a day to explore the city before flying back to England. The four Coverack ladies can feel well satisfied, having accomplished the challenge, and having raised over £15,000 between them for charity.
