FLINTS
History Homepage

You can see some of the flints found on Crousa Downs (map reference SW762192) They were collected by the Wood family, whilst living at Trelangate, from 1972 until 1987.
The hand axe was found by Andrew Wood, in 1979, about 100 metres South of the map reference given. The flints are thought to be Mesolithic, (middle stone age), from around 4,500 to 4,000BC.

For those interested in reading more on the subject of local flints there is the booklet written by Edith Dowson in 1971, entitled "Flint Finds from the Lizard".  She refers to an earlier work by Charles Thomas written in 1955, entitled "Flint Industries from the Lizard".
My thanks are due to Margaret Hunt,
who has kindly shared her knowledge of flints.
