The road in front of the Bay Hotel re-opened on 12th November 2004
|
| The hole shown on the left was about 100 cubic metres in volume, big enough according to some, to contain a double-decker bus. By November 5th, as you can see, it was partly filled with concrete at an approximate cost of £100 per cubic metre. | ||
The photograph on the right, also taken on 5th November, shows the shuttering in place at the bottom of the steps. The mini digger shown had to be craned down on to the beach due to the lack of a ramp for a normal size digger to be able to work. Some people in the village would like to see the old ramp at the North Corner end restored, to allow access for future repairs.

Open Again! Just after
10.30am on Friday 12th November the road was re-opened and the first
car through is thought to have been Mrs Goldsworthy from the Bay
Hotel. It had been estimated originally that the road would be closed
until 21st November.
