Coverack
Community Beach Clean and Scavenger Hunt.
On
Tuesday 27th May more than 30 people gathered on Coverack beach for a
community Beach Clean. For a small village it was a great turn out and
a wonderful mix of volunteers worked exceptionally hard to gather an amazing
amount of rubbish from the Beach.
Just fewer than 30 bags of rubbish were collected, also enormous piles
of rope and net and numerous large plastic containers. These were removed
by Kerrier District Council early the following morning. Large pieces
of wood were recycled for artistic purposes or wood burning stoves.
The event was organised by Coverack Space 2000 a community group that
aims to promote and develop community activities in Coverack. Alison Forward
from Cornwall Wildlife Trust provided all the equipment required and inspired
us all, particularly the children, to think of the effects that rubbish
on our beach has on the environment and wildlife. There was a fun and
educational Scavenger Hunt after the beach clean for participating children.
After East Winds, Coverack had a higher than usual quantity of rubbish
washed up on the shoreline. Thanks to the Beach Clean the whole of Coverack
Beach was cleared and now both beach goers and wildlife can feel the benefit.
Many thanks to all who took part and worked so hard.
