News from Coverack

Villagers have enjoyed two parties at the Paris Hotel recently. The dining room and bar were packed with well wishers on both occasions. The first, held on Sunday 27th February was a surprise 70th birthday party for Brenda, who was warmly thanked for providing a vital service for the village by running her shop.

The second party was held on Sunday 13th March to celebrate Penny Parton's 25 years of service to the village as postmistress in Coverack. Penny prepared an album of photographs showing customers past and present.

There was a third well attended event the following day, Monday 14th March, at the Bay Hotel to raise funds for the Coverack Christmas lights.

Wheelchair access at St Peter's Church, Coverack

The photograph to the left was taken on 8th February 2005 and shows work in progress in the churchyard to provide for wheelchair access to the church. This is the first of a series of improvements planned at St Peters, which have been made possible by legacies left to benefit Coverack Church.

The work will provide new steps and a ramp of the required gradient for wheelchair users to access the church.

The plans were drawn up by the architects at Catchfrench Design, and the work is being carried out by W H Bond and Sons of Saltash. The design includes slate edging, and surfaces covered with a thin layer of gravel from Gunwallow beach.

This is the finished project.

The railings and lighting were completed only last week.
