Christmas Day Swim 2009

120 Swim on Christmas Day

The harbour area was packed with people to witness 120 hardy swimmers braving the cold water in aid of charity. David Philpott and Carol Lawrence led the swimmers down the slipway into the water. This year was David's 40th Christmas Day swim and Carol's 29th. For Mark Tripconey it was the 25th cold dip.

£1,160 was contributed by onlookers on the day and Pippa Englefield informs us that there should be another £3,000 - £4,000 to come in from sponsorship. The charity which benefits from the Coverack Christmas swims is Cancer Research UK.

Hugh Richards made sure that there was a warm fire lit in the Fisherman's Rest to help swimmers to warm up after their refreshing experience, and Pippa Englefield prepared a hot punch drink, to warm them from the inside.
