Coverack’s Sand Castle and Sand Sculpture Competition.

Thursday 20th August saw Coverack beach packed with fantastic creations from a Hippopotamus to mermaids, camper vans to castles and including amazing sites such as The Starfish Enterprise and The Eden Project. More than your average day on Coverack beach!
Coverack Space 2000 community group organised the event. There were over 60 entries, in the categories of sand castle or sand sculpture; these were divided depending on whether it was children only or family groups being creative.

The winner of the Best Children’s Sand Castle was Brittany. The Davies family and ‘Lizard Island’ won the Best Family Sand Castle. Winners in the sand sculpture competition were Ross, Alice, Emily and Tom with their giant ice cream cone. Dan, with his Granny helping, won the best family sand sculpture with a huge Hippo. The Burt family won a Highly Commended award for their ‘Hurb Castle’. The judges did a fantastic job as it is difficult to choose winners out of so many excellent entries.
Coverack Space 2000 would like to thank Trevarno Manor, Future World, and Newquay Zoo for donating tickets as well as ice creams donated from Archie’s Loft and The Old Mill Shop in Coverack.
There was a lovely atmosphere on the beach and a spontaneous round of applause as the prize flags were awarded. CB

The last chance to see the Coverack Singers show this year, was in their Charity Show on 12th September at 8pm. The main beneficiaries this year were the Lizard Lifeboat House Appeal, and the Coverack Christmas Lights.

Harold Martin received two cheques, each for £500 from Coverack Singers, for the two charities.
