On Saturday 8th January 2005 a coffee morning was held in St Peter's Hall Coverack to raise funds for the Shelter Box Tsunami Appeal. An amazing £3,585 was raised to send help to the survivors of Boxing Day's tsunami disaster, enough to supply 9 boxes. Thank you so much to all who supported the appeal, not only from Coverack but also from St Keverne, and from further afield. | |
The concept of shelter boxes was started in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, and now it has spread worldwide. The original idea was from Tom Henderson, who was a search and rescue diver based at RNAS Culdrose. Each box contains a strong, ten person tent, ten sleeping bags, a spade, light and heat, aids to obtaining clean water, and aids for cooking.
