Shelter Box Appeal Raises £3,500 in Coverack

On Saturday 8th January 2005 a coffee morning was held in St Peter's Hall Coverack to raise funds for the Shelter Box Tsunami Appeal. An amazing £3,585 was raised to send help to the survivors of Boxing Day's tsunami disaster, enough to supply 9 boxes. Thank you so much to all who supported the appeal, not only from Coverack but also from St Keverne, and from further afield.

The concept of shelter boxes was started in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, and now it has spread worldwide. The original idea was from Tom Henderson, who was a search and rescue diver based at RNAS Culdrose. Each box contains a strong, ten person tent, ten sleeping bags, a spade, light and heat, aids to obtaining clean water, and aids for cooking.
